Early identification of infants & children who have developmental delays or disorders is key.
Regulations & Policy
HS Performance Standard 1302.33 & Title 5 Section 17706 & 18276
Programs must complete or obtain a current developmental screening to identify concerns regarding a child’s developmental, behavioral, motor, language, social, cognitive & emotional skills.
To identify potential developmental delays we use the Ages & Stages Questionnaire: 3rd Edition and Ages & Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional, 2nd Edition.
Tools are completed within 45 days of enrollment. If rescreen is needed, rescreen is completed 4-6 weeks later.
When referring for assessment follow COPA Procedure to Request CST & email Child Development Supervisor
Share results with parents within 2 weeks if refer/rescreen or at parent conference if okay.
Ages & Stages Questionnaire: Third Edition (ASQ-3)
The ASQ-3 is a first-level comprehensive screening & monitoring system used to identify developmental delays & disorders that may or may not require early intervention services.
The ASQ-3 system includes questionnaires designed to be administered at 21 different ages.
As you administer the ASQ-3, remember that this is a screening tool & not a diagnosis. It’s a tool to identify areas of concern. There may not be anything developmentally wrong with the child, it may be that the child was simply not exposed to a specific learning experience.
